For the procedures of the ECB Simulation Conference, an applicant can participate in two different/distinct roles.

Detail information on the roles and participation costs:

Central Banker: This is the main role of the Conference where the participant is actively participating in the activities to finalize the presented Agenda and cooperates to shape the final results of the Conference. As Central Banker, the participant takes part in the debates of the committees, negotiates with the other participants, submits proposals, and votes on proposals to change the presented Agenda.

Staff: This role is a supporting role to the Organizing Team of the Conference, and is vital to guarantee that is conducted efficiently. Some of the main responsibilities of the Staff Members are a contribution to the effective communication between the committees, maintaining the Conference lists, and the organization of breaks between sessions. The Organizing Team is cooperating directly with the Staff Members, guaranteeing that in no way the Staffs are working on their own.

Observer:

Through the role of the observer, the participant can follow all the meetings of the committee to which he/she is assigned, without actively participating in the formulation of its findings, like the Central Bankers. In particular, it is his/her responsibility to take notes on the positions taken by the countries’ representatives and any agreements reached. After each meeting, he or she will inform the Executive Committee of the progress of the proceedings and the development of the discussions. In case the Executive Committee deems it necessary, the observer may have the opportunity to make a brief statement at the end of the discussion on the whole of the established agenda, if he/she so wishes. The observer shall become familiar with the agenda of the themes, the structure of the debates and, in general, with the processes of the Court. Through participation in the role of the observer, which is aimed at younger students who want to have a first conference experience, each participant gains valuable experience and soft skills in the context of the interdisciplinary subject matter of the conference.

The observer positions amount to a total of 10 people. A shortlist of runners-up is kept.
